Renaissance Inspired Cinderella Gown for a doll, part 4: The Drama Queen

The first three posts of this gown you'll find under the label Disney Style Renaissance Inspired Cinderella Gown. The first post was about sewing the dress, the second was about the shift and in the third was photos of finished gown without a doll. This post is maybe a bit more about Flavia The Drama Queen than about the gown itself.

She is such a theatrical girl! (Sleeves with organza ribbon.)

Ok, Flavia, this is maybe a bit too much.

I'm happy that I finally got silk ribbon for the sleeves.

Now that Flavia has done so much theatrical posing she feels that she is able to do some neutral poses to present the gown.

And here we are again. Although this is quite moderate theatricality. (She is quoting Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet, I guess.)

 P. S. Did I tell you why it's a Cinderella gown? Well, of course because it's blue.

Renaissance Inspired Cinderella Gown for a doll, part 3: finished gown

(This post is about making the gown, this post is about the chemise of the outfit.)

Huge sleeves and a tiny-tiny train. Well, it's more like an overlong hem in the back. Well, aren't overlong hems called trains? Or is there a particular measurement that defines when it is a train and when it is an overlong hem?

I replaced the light blue organza ribbons of the sleeves with cream-yellow silk ribbons. And I took photos with the silk ribbons. But I can't find those photos...

The front part of the skirt is made from silk taffeta. All hems (and many seams) of this costume are hand stitched. Hand stitches are not as even as machine stitches (at leas my hand stitches are not), but I like the overall image of hand stitched (period) doll clothes. The image is kind of soft.

The front piece of the skirt is lined.

There is quite a lot of fabric in the back.

Synthetic velvet is not easy to handle (at least for me), but its softness is a good thing when you are sewing doll clothes. As you can see, it drapes beautifully.

I say this hook and eye closing is quite invisible! Yay!

The bodice part of the dress is lined with cotton.

Here you can almost see that the sleeves are lined also. Because of lining, the sleeves are very puff, not flat.

Tiny rings on shoulders and sleeves are for attaching sleeves to the bodice.

Next I'll post photos of my drama queen doll, Flavia, with this dress!

Very Cute Bridesmaids for The Royal Wedding

My dear doll girls wanted to be bridesmaids today. They forced me to give my best laces to them and then they began to ice themselves with Stuff:

Wow. I say this is something!

At this point I had to tell them that I don't have enough lace for everyone if they continue this way. They are wise girls, and after a short discussion they let me help with their decorations.

(This photo is here because it's romantic.)

So. Here you are! Some bridesmaids for the royal wedding! (They were totally definite that bridesmaids do need veils.)

Sigrid's style is very simple and aristocratic.

Anna didn't want to give away her lace topping. It was ok.

Ester wanted to have a bertha like queen Victoria did have in her wedding.

Something glamorous for Roísín. Like always.

And something delicate for Evangeline.

(This photo is here because I wanted to put it here.)

And finally group photos:

I must say that this glamorous group of bridesmaids overruns the glamour of the Windsors!

Cat cap and cat bag - what more could a doll want!

Oh dear. I shouldn't have told her about visiting Turku. Not yet, many days before. She is asking me questions non-stop. When do we leave? Do we leave now? Could we leave now? Do you show me the cathedral? Do you take me with you to Cafe Art? Is it really the best café in Finland? Why it's the best? Could we leave now? What if it's raining then? Do we go to Ruissalo if it's raining? Is the sea still cold? Could I swim in Ruissalo? Why not? Please, could we leave now? Could we leave tomorrow? Is the cathedral really medieval?

Well, I'm (almost) as excited as she is. I used to live in Turku for eight years, and now it's more than eight years since I have visited Turku at spring. And it's the most beutiful place at spring, specially Ruissalo Island! I can't wait to see wood anemones and hepaticas in Ruissalo!

I sewed a new bag and for Ester. I found it the best way to celebrate upcomig trip. The bag is simple but I think it's also cute. And most importantly, it's a good hiding place for mr Fox.

The cap is simple also. If you can call something simple when it's decorated with a Queen of Cats.

Renaissance Inspired Cinderella Gown for a doll, part 2: the chemise

(Previous post was about making the gown for this outfit.)

I just love doll undergarments made from white cotton. They look always so crisp.

Sleeves must be a bit overlong because of oversleeves. You know, Renaissance sleeves. White poofs coming between lacing. Oh dear, I cant say it better in English.

Back (as you can see).

This cotton lace is beautiful!

Crisp!

Lace!

Sorry! Lace again!

And one with socks!

This is the last one! With not-so-renaissance shoes! I think Flavia looks cool here.
